John Abraham (born December 17, 1973) is an Indian actor and model.

Biography

John was born in Mumbai on December 17, 1973. His father is a Malayalee Christian architect, born in Aluva, Kerala, while his mother is Parsi and was a basketball teacher. His original name is Farhan, but called John as on his fathers wish, both of them eloped because of their religious differences and Abraham's birth mended his parents' strained relationship with their respective parents. Abraham has one younger brother, Alan.

Abraham first went to Bombay Scottish School and later to Jai Hind College, where he held the position of captain in the soccer team. He worked for Enterprises-Nexus as a media planner, while being the captain of Bombay's soccer team.

In 1999, he won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest and went to Singapore for Manhunt International, where he won a second place. He did Provogue ads and became India's best paid model.

In 2003, Abraham entered Bollywood with the controversial and successful movie Jism. He recently featured in the Indian PETA campaign. Currently, John Abraham is dating actress and fellow model Bipasha Basu.

Trivia

  • John used to live opposite the Gold Spot factory in Mumbai during his childhood.

  • During a school sports meet in his childhood, he nearly got booted out of a 4 X 100 metres relay race because he made more than 2 false starts from the race's starting grid before the starting gun was even fired.

  • He is the first Asian model choosen by Levis.

  • His voice was dubbed in his first film, Jism (2003).

  • Although he generally follows a vegetarian diet, he does eat fish from time to time.

  • He has completed his MBA.

  • John Abraham was placed number one on "India's 50 Most Desirable Men Listing", a poll conducted across the globe in 2006.
